Your donation dollars at work this week! Here’s an update on Patches, a found cockatiel. She was found to be weak, underweight, and extremely calcium deficient at her first vet visit two weeks ago. Since then, she has gained weight (up to 83 grams from 72 grams), and regained enough strength to walk, climb, and perch. Yay! There hasn’t been ample time to see if the supplemental calcium and D3 she is receiving has improved her bone density. She will need to receive the calcium supplement for 6 months per her doctor. She will be available for adoption in about two weeks if no owner has been found. Anyone interested in adopting her would have to agree to continuing her calcium treatment. ● PayPal to avianunderdogs@sbcglobal.net ● Venmo: @AvianUnderdogs (6696 is the last 4 digits of our phone #) ● Zelle: 949-584-6696 or avianunderdogs@sbcglobal.net

HoHo received his or her much needed scalp lift yesterday. We weren’t sure there was enough viable skin left to be able to make this happen, but Dr.. Weldy did it! Often scalping injuries can be left to just grow back (or not) with minor treatment. In HoHo’s case, this wasn’t an option. The left side of the scalp was literally hanging down over the left eye. Obviously, this resulted in the loss of vision in that eye and was causing pain and inflammation to the eye since the drooping scalp was rubbing against the eyeball. HoHo is on an antibiotic, meloxicam for pain and swelling, and lubricating eyedrops for the left eye. HoHo yas a recheck next week.
