About Us

Avian Underdogs Rescue Association helps between 600-800 birds each year.

Avian Underdogs Rescue Association (AURA) is a registered 501(c)(3) public charity based in Southern California. AURA is building an association of people and resources to assure that birds in our locale that are sick, injured, and/or orphaned are able to get the care they need in order to survive. At the present time, we do not take in protected wildlife species for which state/federal permits are required but rather the true “underdogs” of the avian world who have nowhere else to go for help. We specialize in rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming English House Sparrows, European Starlings, feral and domestic pigeons and doves, Nutmeg Mannikins, Pin-tailed Whydahs, Japanese White Eyes, and both wild and domestic parrot species.

Wild birds that are not native to North American or birds that are domestic or exotic typically cannot find help from wildlife centers or permitted individuals, veterinarians, or animal control agencies/humane societies. When kindly members of the public find such birds, they are faced with a very real dilemma when it comes to finding help for their found bird. AURA helps between 600-800 such birds each year.

AURA is always in need of volunteer help. If you are interested, please complete a volunteer application which can be found in the Forms section here.

We are grateful for assistance in any of these areas!
