Chewy update and introduction. Even though Chewy has been an AURA flock member for over a year, I don’t think he was ever properly introduced, so please meet Chewy.
Chewy was rescued from a bad environment by a kind lady who was hoping he would become a companion for her older cockatiel who had lost his cockatiel friend to old age. Unfortunately, that didn’t work out. The two birds just didn’t like each another one little bit.
Chewy’s rescuer contacted us to see if we might have a male cockatiel that might work as a companion for her older bird. We did, and after some high level negotiations π a deal was struck whereby Chewy would come to us, and Cheerio would be adopted from us after passing muster with the adopter’s cockatiel. This all worked out. Chewy’s beak issues were not present when he was first rescued or when he joined the AURA flock.
A couple of months after Chewy became an AURA bird, his beak started scissoring and quickly became overgrown. Even though he had been transitioned to a healthy diet early in his residency with us, the lower beak in particular became a serious problem. Thus began a long journey of trying to correct Chewy’s beak. This has taken months of beak trimming and shaping, various medications, and many vet visits. At this point, it looks like Chewy will need beak trimming by an avian veterinarian or an experienced bird groomer every 4 to 6 weeks for the rest of his life.
Chewy is a spunky, happy, whistling little guy who would love to find a forever home with someone who is willing and able to give him the love he deserves and the care he needs. Chewy is believed to have been in the home he was rescued from for at least 8 years. He is now 9 or more years old. If youβre interested in adopting Chewy, please email us for an adoption application at adopt@avianunderdogs.org.
